Youngstown Leaders Push for a “People’s Charter”

YOUNGSTOWN LEADERS PUSH FOR A “PEOPLE’S CHARTER”
MVOC and YNLC jointly host a meeting on Youngstown Charter Reform

YOUNGSTOWN – At 6:30pm tonight, leaders from the Mahoning Valley Organizing Collaborative (MVOC) and the Youngstown Neighborhood Leadership Council (YNLC) will gather at the Main Public Library to discuss the impact of changes to the Youngstown City Charter on local neighborhoods. The city-appointed Charter Review Committee ended its discussions regarding recommendations on Monday.

“We must be aware that these proposals could change how our government relates to neighborhoods and to us,” said Patti Dougan of YNLC. “Residents should be aware of these changes and be equipped to vote – especially on the statutes that will have the most impact on the city.”

Leaders have invited residents to this educational meeting to learn about the proposals and determine which of them are most important for them. They will also encourage next steps to ensure that the People’s Voice is not lost in the discussion over charter reform, especially as the Charter Review Committee makes final recommendations to City Council and those members begin deliberating which issues should be sent to the ballot.
